"Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready." Revelation 19:7

Grace Community Church was born of a desire to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ and to share Him with others. The seed was planted in 1976 as Floyd and Marcella Reeser of Hammonton, New Jersey, prayed for a Bible study in their home. That Bible study began in 1983. That same year our current pastor, Gary Schmidt, graduated from Stockton State College and heard the call of God on his life. In 1984, Gary married Debbie and both heard the call of God to serve Him in church planting. They believed God would use their lives to share the Good News of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ wherever He sent them. In 1986, Gary graduated from seminary and accepted the call from the Metropolitan District of The Christian and Missionary Alliance to start a church in Hammonton. He began teaching the Bible study at the Reesers’ in the winter of 1986. Retired Alliance missionary Franklin Heiser and his wife Ruthanna, came along side Gary and Debbie and committed to help this new work. In June 1986, the first service of Hammonton Alliance Church was held at 215 Central Avenue, Hammonton. The church was renamed Hammonton Community Church in 1988 to better reflect the church philosophy of serving community families. Activities such as a kid’s club, model club, weight lifting club, women’s groups, mother / daughter banquets, neighborhood Bible clubs for children, and adult home fellowships and Bible studies worked to spread God’s Word. In March of 1989, the church moved to the Winslow Fire Hall off Route 561. The church's name changed to Grace Community Church in November of 1989. Although the hall did provide needed space, the fire alarm and fire engines blaring during worship service were a loud signal that perhaps a fire hall was not the prime location for our church service! The Lord provided again and the church moved to Winslow School 1, in January of 1990. Adequate space for Bible classes, church services, socials, and grounds for outdoor activities were provided. The membership increased as people grew in the Lord, with a strong emphasis on home care groups. On February 23, 1992, Grace Community Church officially organized as a Christian & Missionary Alliance church. Through prayer and fasting the Lord led us to our present property on Pump Branch Road, Winslow Township. Through sacrificial giving, the Lord provided for us to own twelve acres debt-free. On October 8, 2006 we moved into our new building at 155 Pump Branch Road. The beautiful, 8,600 square foot facility is a testimony to the glory of God and a wonderful addition to the community. New ministries continue to be added as God opens doors to spread His Word. Good News Clubs, meeting in seven schools, serve over 200 children who may have no other exposure to the gospel. Special women’s, men’s and youth ministries, local festivals and holiday concerts enrich the lives of our visitors and church family. We believe the impact of these and other ministries will be greatly magnified through the presence of our building in this rapidly growing community. To God be the glory! |
